Personal Bio

Joe is also a winemaker and owns Antioch Cellars, a boutique winery in Oregon specializing in Pinot Noir. He is an avid photographer, outdoorsman and fisherman. His other great passion is gardening. An enthusiastic traveler, he has visited more than 80 countries over the last 30 years.
 
For the last five years he has also been a guest speaker for a number of international cruise lines where he has spoken on a diverse variety of topics ranging from The Naval History of the Mediterranean to the origin of the Vikings, the History of Rum and the building of the Panama Canal. An experienced naturalist who has produced over two dozen documentaries on the natural world, he has also spoken on a range of topics from Alaskan geology to Arctic astronomy to marine wildlife.
 
He has also frequently spoken on the history of food, wine and spirits; a particular passion of his. He holds the Diploma in Wine and Spirits and the Professional Certificate in Spirits (with Distinction) from the Wine and Spirits Education Trust in London. He also frequently reviews wines and spirits for a number of publications. Joe is a certified wine judge for the California State Fair Wine Competition and also judges for the International Wines and Spirits Competition (IWSC).
